One of the things we like to pass around the office are our best ideas for names for the new iPhone 6. Like most people we’re pretty sure that Apple will ditching the iPhone 5 for iPhone 6. That much is fairly obvious from their past naming styles. But with iPhone 6 rumors swirling all over, and most rumors pointing to two different sizes of iPhone 6, what are they going to name these new models?
Apple’s Classic Naming Style – iPhone 6S
As one of the largest companies in the world Apple doesn’t like to rock the boat with their branding. They typically go with a letter after the number and they usually like to repeat ones they previously used. That means we’re most likely to be seeing cases for a new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S in the future. Apple has used the “S” twice before and with two models of new iPhones it could provide an easy way to tell them apart.
New World Apple – iPhone 6C
Always one to replay a successful act Apple may go for the same divide between the iPhone 6 devices that they used with the iPhone 5. Namely that means one of the devices, likely the smaller of the two rumored sizes, will be the iPhone 6C while the other device may be just the iPhone 6 or become the iPhone 6S. The C hasn’t been as great of a seller for Apple as they might have hoped so they may be trying to reclaim some lost magic from previous versions and skip the idea of the iPhone 6C entirely.
Crossover Appeal – iPhone Nano & iPhone Pro
Never thought you’d see the phrase iPhone Nano? What about iPhone 6 Nano? Well you just might! If you haven’t gotten the drift already we think Apple will reuse something they used before and that might be a naming convention from a previous device. The two most popular Apple devices that have had additional versioning in their name have been the iPod Nano and the Macbook Pro. There’s an outside shot Apple tries to tie in a little crossover naming appeal by going with the iPhone 6 Pro, the larger one, and the iPhone 6 Nano, the now “smaller” size of iPhone
Crazy Ideas
There have been a lot of… unusual… rumors being throw about for some ideas for names so we though we’d get them out there. The most popular of the crazy ideas is the iPhone 6X or iPhone 6L. We’re definitely not 100% behind but we though we should throw it out there just because we all know Apple is known for being so eXtreme. Some of the other ones have been the iPhone Tiny, iPhone Giant, and the iPhone OS. We’re not convinced on any of those crazy ones but we’ll keep you posted when we know more
